About the College

VNIT initially,Visvesvarya Regional Engineering College, Nagpur, officially called the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (after Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya), was started in 1960 as one of the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges, created throughout the country, as centers of excellence in promoting basic and advanced research, and technological education at a higher level.

REC, Nagpur is ideally located in the heart of the country, in the "Orange City of India", Nagpur, adjacent to the beautiful, picturesque Ambazari Lake, in a quiet, wooded area of around 250 acres. It has a self-contained campus, and since its inception, has been growing in strength and importance with the years, and has established itself as one of the premier educational institutions in the country.

The college offers degrees at the Undergraduate, Graduate and Postgraduate levels in various disciplines in Engineering and Architecture. Undergraduate programs in Engineering have a duration of 4 years, while the undergraduate program in Architecture is of a five-year period. A Postgraduate program in Business Management is likely to commence soon.

Apart from imparting professional education, the College has been extending available expertise to various Governement, Semi-Government and private organizations through testing and consultancy services. The College also organizes short term courses and seminars for the benefit of those in the profession. The college boasts of a faculty of national and international repute, as well excellent facilities and resources, and an extensive library networking system, all of which lead to a very enjoyable and invaluable learning experience for the students as well as faculty and staff alike.

REC, Nagpur, as is the other RECs, is unique in that they promote cultural diversity, by following a system which ensures that the students come from all parts of the country. Each state has a certain quota of students, with the home state accounting for 50% of the students and the remaining 50% being shared by the other states. This ensures a cultural mix, and promotes diversity and cultural development amongst the students.

REC, Nagpur is one of the sixteen Regional Engineering Colleges, that have been selected by the Government of India, as National Institutes of Technology (NIT's). The NIT's, which have been operational from 2002 are be equipped with the latest technological and research facilities to provide the best education in all disciplines of engineering to the incoming students. The NIT's are on par with the best Engineering schools not only in the country, but also in the world.
